Taking it Home

This experience has been an eye opener as a future nurse.  Nursing is an important role because we are a teacher and advocate for patients.  Especially in a community like the ones we worked with this past week. Seeing what we seen this past week could break one's professionalism for the fact biases and being judgemental could come in play easily.  I would say the lesson learned this week would be: no matter the situation it is very important to keep professional because you don't know a persons story. This experience makes me want to advocate for those that are not able to advocate for themselves.  Because these people that can't advocate for themselves suffer for it. I feel that it is my responsibility to share this experience to help with how much waste we go through in Healthcare. Especially when there are people that don't even get the privilege of these supplies. I plan to continue growing from this experience by looking at the individual versus the illness, look into resources that can be offered to patients, and not be quick to judge while working on my unconscious biases.

This is a photo taken during our research day. This is when I learned that a woman could go in to have there Pap Smear done but be turned away because they ran out of supplies to do that Pap Smear.
